Wii HD Link Component Cable
Wii HD Link Component Cable
Nykko Wii HD Link Component Cable Customer Reviews:
I’m well aware of some of the problems with HDMI cables, but I made the critical error of assuming that one component cable would be as good as the next… Not so! When I bought my Wii last summer, I went ahead and picked up the MadCatz component cable in order to be able to play at 480p on our LCD television. The MadCatz cable was prone to EMI, mainly in the form of horizontal static. It wasn’t horribly noticeable on lighter screens, but it was pretty noticeable on darker backgrounds. I suffered through it for about a year, until I finally made a decision to try a different cable. Enter the Nykko… The cable itself appears well made, and my EMI problems are now totally gone! Thank you Nykko for making a properly shielded cable.
Probably better than Nintendo’s
I paid half the price for this component cable than what Nintendo is offering at [...]
still, I think. Despite half the price and the fact that it is not Nintendo-branded, I was pleasantly surprised with this cable. In fact, I would go as far to say it’s better than Nintendo’s.
The picture of Nintendo’s (Link here: Official Wii Component Video Cable) makes it obvious of what I’m about to say-the cords aren’t thick. Nintendo’s component cables, while ‘official’, are definitely very similar to their regular AV cables…maybe too similar. Naturally, a non-thick cord wouldn’t be a problem if nothing went wrong with it, but there’s something about the Nyko cords that I really like. I have even seen another ‘off-brand’ that couldn’t compete with the way Nyko has done it.
Basically, Nyko created the cord to be very thick in the middle, which goes a long way to protect the cords. Additionally, it splits toward the end of the cable to create the five colors, and it’s just long enough to slightly stretch and separate the cords to make it very usable. It also rolls up very easily and comes with a nice twist tie to make for easy storage. If there’s one small gripe, it’s that after 6 months or so, the twist tie slightly broke after being used so much, but I’m sure one who buys this could easily replace the already included tie.
All in all, this is a really great product that I would highly recommend. It is rare that I buy, let alone recommend off-brand products, but not only is this a good choice to buy, it is likely more favorable than Nintendo’s. If you’ve been waiting to upgrade your interlace video to a progressive video because you have a newer TV (and face it, you do-just check the back for a spot for three additional colors; red, green and blue), then don’t hesitate to buy this to supplement your Wii playing!
Definitely worth it if you have a LCD/Plasma TV
My parents gave me a hand-me-down Sharp Aquos about a month ago so that I didn’t need to save up for the Samsung UN46B8500XFXZA which is pretty outrageously priced. The Sharp has 2 component inputs vs. my old CRT Sony Trinitron. I’m an high tech AV nut when it comes to my PC and since I play Wii games with the girlfriend and other friends I wanted to bring my console entertainment up to speed in terms of video and audio quality. Although mildly disappointed that the Wii was not designed to support the HDMI signal format and could not even manage to get 720p I bought these cables because they’re very cheap. The quality is pretty decent and pretty much on par with that one brand that ridiculously OVERCHARGES for all of their products *cough*MONSTER*cough*. So now I have the Wii setup to display 640p on my Aquos and it looks noticably better than my friend’s Wii @ 640i on their 55in Sony Bravia XBR. This is worth the $14 even if you have to eat a time cost if they are DOA, they’re cheap enough to not matter.
Disapointed, but it works as advertised
I have a 50″ plasma that I had my Wii hooked up to via the cables that came out of the box. the picture quality was horrendous(blocky, lagging, and the picture was just too “warm”), but it was so big that it was just still fun to play. I wanted to upgrade to the BEST possible picture I could for my Wii and I didn’t want to sacrifice anything. So I purchased the Wii HD Link Component Cable. There is no HDMI option which would be the best, but the Wii has it’s own limitations and let’s face it, it’s not known for it’s mind blowing graphics.
This product increased the picture quality in terms of color and in responsiveness. The colors are more vivid and they don’t seem so washed together, the picture actually pops now. The picture also moves more in line with what I’m doing. No choppiness and no lag time. The down side is that because of the the limitation of the resolution of the Wii itself, the picture is stll blocky at times. Now this may be because I’m a Wii Sports guy, I play that game like it’s my part time job. But the bowling pins seem a little “jagged” on my 50″, but overall I am very satisfied with the product itself. And for only $15 for the component cable, come on. TV’s are thousands, Wii’s are hundreds……doesn’t it make sense to upgrade for $15. It’s chump change in comparison.
Sufficient Quality…You won’t be Disappointed!
Great Quality…I am not the least-bit disappointed.
I normally always by the Brand Name equipment because I often find 3rd party gaming manufacturers to produce items that just feel cheap.
This is not the case with this cable.
My real inspiration to buy this was due to my home theater configuration. I have a plasma mounted on a wall, with (2) 1 1/2″ hole(s) behind it to feed the cables in from a closet behind it (It really is a sick setup!)
My old cable was too big to fit through the holes, so I needed something a little more slim. This wire did the trick!! Plus, you cannot beat the price.
I should mention, that if you are playing a Wii on an HD TV…..you NEED this cable (or any another component cable). Don’t expect 360 graphics….but you will definitely notice a sharper image.
Wii HD Link Component Cable
I recently purchased a Wii System and decided to look for an HD cable to get better video on my HDTV when I used the Wii. Prices for these cables are very expensive and I almost decided to forget it until I ran across this particular cable which was reasonable in price and appeared to have decent ratings from other users. So, I gave it a try.
Basically, it works as advertised. I did not see a lot of difference in using this cable over the component cable that came with the Wii except for games that have some kind of water content - like the golf game that comes with the Wii. With the component cable, the water does not look very realistic - pretty fake in fact. With the HD cable, the water looks like water and gives the game a little more realism. I do not have many games yet for my system so I cannot comment on other game differences with the 2 cables in comparison. My thought is that for $20, I got a cable that improved the graphics (water scenes) enough that I can better enjoy some games that are available with the Wii.
Note that when you replace the component cable that came with the Wii system with this cable, you have to go back into the Wii video options menu and change the screen resolution to take advantage of this cable’s better properties.
